My training is in Adult Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and I've provide treatment for a wide range of psychiatric illnesses like, Depression, Bipolar, schizophrenia, PTSD, Anxiety, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder , stress management, and many more mental health problems. You can be assured; I am committed to excellence when it comes to the level of care I provide for all of my patients.

Pharmacotherapy

Psychopharmacology involves a wide range of medications with various types of psychoactive properties, focusing primarily on the chemical interactions with the brain. Psychiatric medications exert their effects almost entirely by acting on neurotransmitters and by modifying one or more aspects of synaptic transmission.  These psychiatric medications can exert their effect by:

1) Serving as a precursor for the neurotransmitter.

2) Inhibiting neurotransmitter synthesis.

3) Preventing storage of neurotransmitter in the presynaptic vesicle.

4) Stimulating or inhibiting neurotransmitter release.

5) Stimulating or blocking post-synaptic receptors.

6) Stimulating autoreceptors, inhibiting neurotransmitter release.

7) Blocking autoreceptors, increasing neurotransmitter release.

8) Inhibiting neurotransmission breakdown.

9) Blocking neurotransmitter reuptake by the presynaptic neuron.

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy includes an interactive processes between a person or group and a qualified mental health professional (psychiatrist, psychologist, clinical social worker, licensed counselor, or other trained practitioner). Its purpose is the exploration of thoughts, feelings and behavior for the purpose of problem solving or achieving higher levels of functioning.  Research has shown that combining psychotherapy with medications produces the best outcome for most conditions.  I enjoys working with patients using short term or long term therapy.  However, some problems may need more intesnive or traditional psychotherapy treatment, and  If at any time I believes that you will be better served in a traditional therapy setting, we will work together in getting referral to a traditional therapist.

Consultation

Sometimes people will work with a psychiatrist or other provider, and experience partial improvement in their conditions. It may be useful in such circumstances to have a comprehensive treatment review to see if there is any way of helping to bring about remission, or further improvement. When you come for a 2nd opinion I will provide a report to the treating clinician. Sometimes, a 2nd, or 3rd pair of eyes can see something new and useful.
